Lumba Sumba Pass

22 Days Spring and Autumn Nepal
Description:

The Lumba Sumba Pass Trek is one of the most rewarding treks one can opt for. The trek starts from the Kanchenjunga Region, crossing the Lumba Sumba pass at 5177m altitude and ends up in the Makalu region and accounts for an extremely wonderful adventure. You will be delighted to be acquainted with the wilderness as well as solitude and pristineness of the Kanchenjunga and Makalu region. The trek can be more promising because occasional sightings of Snow Leopard and Red Pandas have been mentioned. Climbing from the one side of the Lumba Sumba Pass to reach the top and gradually descend to the other side of the Barun Valley requires some level of physical fitness, passion, and dedication.

The overall trek is quite interesting as the trail follows through dense forests of oaks, pines, and Rhododendrons on one side and clear Arun and Tamor rivers flowing on the other. The Arun and Tamor rivers are the main tributaries of the Sapta Koshi River. This trek will give you a lifetime experience of wandering in nature with so much diversity in ecosystem, wildlife, landscapes within two major conservation areas of Nepal: The Kanchenjunga Conservation Area ad Makalu Barun National Park. The trek involves passing through alpine grasslands, rocky landscapes, dense temperate and sub-tropical forests, glacial lakes and low river valleys as well as cultural heritage like monasteries, chhortens, temples and prayer walls. At times we will be trekking through isolated areas without any kind of human settlements for a number of days.

Other major attractions of this trek are the panoramic and exotic views of the world’s third and the fifth-highest mountains; Mt Kanchenjunga (8,586) and Mt. Makalu (8,485m).
