Sishapangma Expedition (8,013m)

47 Days Spring and Autumn Tibet
Description:

Mt. Sishapangma, 8,012m lying completely in Tibet is one of the most significant peaks. This 14th highest peak is a long steeped and most straight-forward 8000m to ascend. The trademark of Sishapangma is a long steeped jagged Southern Face ascending above 2000m, posing a commanding sign to everyone to climb. Lying in the Langtang Himal range, this peak is situated 5 km away from the border of Nepal and Tibet.

The Sanskrit name of the peak is Gosiathan meaning ‘the holy place’ or ‘the abode of God’ whereas, in Tibetan local language, it is called Xixapangma meaning ‘the mountain sitting above the lush fields’. Sishapangma is rated as one of the easiest eight-thousanders to climb requiring very low climbing skills and experience of High Mountain. Although the access is easy via the northwest and northeast face and ridge due to the reachability of vehicles, the southwest face is comparatively technically demanding and steeper involving a 2,200metres of ascent on 50-degree slope. Accessible from two faces, Mt. Sishapangma has two base camps utilized independently while summiting from each face.

The first successful ascent to Sishapangma was made via the Northern Route by a Chinese expedition team led by Xu Jing on 2nd May 1964. Since then multiple attempts of the summit have been made.
