International Baruntse Expedition (7129m)

34 Days Spring Nepal
Description:

Mt. Baruntse (7129m) is one of the beautiful peaks in the Khumbu Region of Nepal with a symmetrical snow peak consisting of four ridges and four summits. The Barun Glacier flowing north-south from Cho-Polu bounds it from the east side, whereas the Imja Glacier lies to the north-west and Hunku Glacier on the south-east. The three ridges of Baruntse lie between these glaciers forming an upturned ‘Y’ running from the Cho-Polu in the north past Humane La on to the north summit. The Southeast Ridge is a bit technical to climb because of its elevation. The expedition involves difficult climbing sections of 50 Degrees Elevation with a prominent ice cliff posing the risk of Avalanche. The expedition from the south involves climbing the Mera Peak to reach the Mera La and through the Hunku valley to the Base Camp. Walking past the beautiful Sherpa villages situated in the high altitude provides time for acclimatization. The Base Camp at 5250m sits near the pristine lakes below Amphu Lapcha pass. From there we take a route following a long ridge leading to the summit.

The first successful summit to Mt Baruntse was made by Colin Todd and Geoff Harrow of the New Zealand Expedition on 30th May 1954. The top of the summit allows witnessing the panoramic views of Mt Everest, Mt Makalu, Mt Lhotse, Chamlang and other peaks.
