Gokyo Valley Trek

Description:

Gokyo Valley is the hidden gem in the Khumbu region.  Residing just beside the world’s 6th highest mountain Mt Cho Oyu and around the giant 8000ers, Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse, Gokyo valley is truly any adventure lover’s perfect choice. The trek passes through pristine, quaint and rugged paths filled with natural allure. Moreover, it is also popular as the highest freshwater lake system with around 19   large and small lakes in the area. 6 of them hold a great significance because of their size and depth.

Gokyo valley is the best destination with the blend of natural beauty and cultural riches. The major attraction is Gokyo village with small stone houses and small tea houses, situated by the bank of the third Gokyo Lake. You will be acquainted with several Sherpa settlements, Buddhists monasteries, Chhortens, and stupas whilst enjoying the great vistas of the Khumbu Himalayas. The warm hospitality of Sherpa people and simplicity in lifestyle are worth watching.

The trek continuously follows the Dudh Koshi River passing along green forests, stony terrains and moraines of Ngozumpa glacier. The trek is moderate, hence accessible by anyone with good physical fitness and mental will power. This trekking trail eventually leads to the Gokyo Ri which offers the amazing views of the Khumbu region.

Itinerary:

Upon your arrival and completion of formal procedures, our representative will meet and greet you at the airport and will drop you off at the hotel. After a few hours of rest, we will see you in the evening for welcome dinner.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will level for the airport to take a short flight to Lukla. Enjoying the sceneries and the views of the mountain ranges, we land at Lukla and start our trek to Phakding. Rest overnight in Phakding.

From Phakding, we move alongside the Dudh Koshi River through the green lush forests of Rhododendron and pines. We pass through the checkpoint of Sagarmatha National Park at Mojo. Then finally, we reach the commercial hub of the Khumbu region, the Namche Bazaar. We rest here the next day to acclimatize and explore the surrounding areas. 

Leaving Namche behind, we follow the trails of Dudh Koshi river and ascent on a trail with Mani walls and prayer flags. After passing several villages, we reach whole from where we can see the mesmerizing views of Mt Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Taboche and many more. 

The trail from Dhole to Machhermo offers a continuous view of snow-capped mountains. Passing through Kele and Luza we reach Machhermo to rest overnight.

After 4-5 hours of trek from Machhermo, we reach the Gokyo valley. As we ascend along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, we pass through monasteries and Chortens. Then we gradually each the First Gokyo Lake. Then walking on the moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier, we reach the second lake and finally the third lake behind which the ancient Sherpa village of Gokyo resides. Rest overnight in Gokyo. 

On this day, we will be exploring the Gokyo Village, their culture, traditions, and lifestyle. We will also go on a hike to the Gokyo Ri at 5483m and get back to the village. 

After exploring the area and ascending the Gokyo Ri, we retrace our path back to Dhole. Throughout the trek, we will be overwhelmed by the pristine beauty of mesmerizing scenes of the Himalayan ranges. 

From Dhole, we will again move on the same trail back to Namche Bazaar. Descending through the alpine forests and past small monasteries, we reach Namche Bazaar. 

Following the trail alongside the Dudh Koshi river, we will trek back to Lukla. Rest overnight in Lukla. 

From Lukla, we will take a flight back to Kathmandu. We will take a short rest and go sightseeing around the city. Rest in the hotel.

Its time for farewell. Our representative will drop you off at the airport for your final departure.
